We often worry about the separation of church and state from the vantage point of keeping religion out of government. Should there is an equal interest in keeping government out of religion? For example, you could not keep Bill Clinton OUT of African-American churches in the 90s. Was it wrong of him to politicize those churches? Now, some Catholic and evangelical churches feel the need to dictate political choices to their flock. As a proponent of individual autonomy, of course I think its morally wrong. But is it legally wrong? People look to their church for guidance. Maybe it says more of our lay leaders that they feel they need political guidance from their clergy than anything else.
